We have two brands of Heartworm preventative –

Interceptor and Heartgard. Only one brand needs to be administered.  Most feed in the bowl with food for breakfast or dinner.

why are these important?

because heartworm disease is a serious, potentially fatal parasitic infection that can cause irreversible damage to a pet’s heart, lungs, and other vital organs. The disease is spread by mosquitoes, and while a positive outcome from heartworm treatment is possible, the process is lengthy, costly, and can significantly impact a pet’s quality of life. Prevention provides a simpler, more effective, and more humane way to protect pets from this deadly threat.

Why do we have more than one brand?  Which should I use?  Either brand is fine, usually it depends on what size is on sale or donated to us.

Why do you ask me what brand I gave on my puppy report if we only have two brands?  Well, in case there is ever a reaction to the preventative sometime in the dogs life, whether that is in puppy placement, or in the future, we can funnel down what the reaction was from.
