DESCRIPTION:Cub Scout Den Meeting: Service Dog Visit\nMonday\, November 30 · [6:00 – 6:30 PM]\nSt. Luke’s Lutheran Church\, 7337 Hubbard Ave.\, Middleton\, WI \nCub Scout Pack 140 has invited OccuPaws to visit their Den Meeting for the “Aware and Care” adventure! The Scouts are learning about service dogs: the tasks they perform\, how they’re trained\, and how they help people with disabilities. \nVolunteers will join the meeting for 15–30 minutes with their dogs. We’ll explain what guide dogs do\, walk through how a puppy grows up and trains to become a working guide\, and show a few skills if the dogs are up for it. We’ll also share good manners for when Scouts meet a service dog in public\, and answer their questions. Expect lots of curious\, enthusiastic kids! \nPlease use the sign-up to let us know you’re coming\, and reach out to Kassel with any questions.

DESCRIPTION:We have two brands of Heartworm preventative – \nInterceptor and Heartgard. Only one brand needs to be administered.  Most feed in the bowl with food for breakfast or dinner. \nwhy are these important? \nbecause heartworm disease is a serious\, potentially fatal parasitic infection that can cause irreversible damage to a pet’s heart\, lungs\, and other vital organs. The disease is spread by mosquitoes\, and while a positive outcome from heartworm treatment is possible\, the process is lengthy\, costly\, and can significantly impact a pet’s quality of life. Prevention provides a simpler\, more effective\, and more humane way to protect pets from this deadly threat. \nWhy do we have more than one brand?  Which should I use?  Either brand is fine\, usually it depends on what size is on sale or donated to us. \nWhy do you ask me what brand I gave on my puppy report if we only have two brands?  Well\, in case there is ever a reaction to the preventative sometime in the dogs life\, whether that is in puppy placement\, or in the future\, we can funnel down what the reaction was from.

Your puppy report is due today! \nPuppy reports aren’t just paperwork—they’re one of the most important tools we have to help each puppy succeed on their guide dog journey. \n\n\nTracking Progress: Reports give us a snapshot of how your puppy is developing. Every note about new skills\, challenges\, or changes in behavior helps trainers understand where the puppy is thriving and where they may need extra support. \n\n\nConsistency Across Homes: Many puppies will be handled by different volunteers\, staff\, and trainers. Reports make sure everyone is on the same page and working toward the same goals. \n\n\nSpotting Concerns Early: Even small issues\, like shyness\, chewing\, or hesitation in public\, can become big roadblocks later. Your reports help us catch those things quickly\, while they’re easiest to work on. \n\n\nCelebrating Wins: Reports are also where we get to hear about the exciting milestones\, first successful “down\,” walking calmly through a busy store\, or even just mastering house manners. These moments encourage everyone involved! \n\n\nShaping the Future Guide Dog: Ultimately\, the information you share directly impacts whether a puppy is ready for advanced training and able to meet the needs of their future partner. \n\nAccreditation: Consistent reporting is also part of maintaining our organization’s accreditation. It shows we are following best practices\, documenting progress\, and upholding the high standards expected of an accredited guide dog program. (IGDF)\n\nIn short: Your reports connect the dots between daily life in your home and the bigger mission of preparing highly trained service dogs. DESCRIPTION:Flea & Tick Prevention\nTo keep our dogs protected year-round\, we administer monthly flea and tick preventatives. On the 15th of each month\, a dose of \nFrontline\, Vectra\, or NextGard (chewable) \nis given.  Monthly use ensures continuous protection against fleas and ticks\, helping prevent infestations and the diseases these parasites may carry and this is administered year round.  The chewable is much more costly\, so please use those ONLY if advised by Barb or Kris.

Lunch\, socializing\, and a short club meeting run from 12:15 to 12:45\, and the OccuPaws presentation runs from 12:45 to 1:15. \nVolunteers will help represent OccuPaws\, chat with Rotary members over lunch\, and answer questions about our program and how people can get involved. Dogs are welcome and are a great addition to the presentation\, as long as they’re comfortable settling quietly through a meal and a meeting.
